Placemat

I tackled making a placemat for my little fellow to take in his lunch box. I got ideas from the Lotta Jansdoters Simple Sewing book and from a blog from Mon Ami's Sew mama sew giveaway day in May. It is in use now for 3 days and seems to be working out.

Remembering...

Saw this awesome idea about keeping up with those really wonderful conversations and "words" that children say. The post was at Pigeon Pair blog. My son is amazing how he can come up with a whole adventure combining his first science fair project with playmobil and lego things! Thinking about keeping photos tucked in with sayings too.

Some of my recent favorites...

While eating some chicken noodle soup last week My son looked up and said "I Love Chicken. Umm Mom Does Chicken really come from ... You know Chicken as in "... and he flapped his arms. When I nodded my head trying not to laugh, he then said "But not the ones on the farm right?"

Another one was "Mom are you Dadisfied?"

Music Book Tote

I made this Tote Bag from a pattern in the gorgeous book Simple Sewing. I saw this book mentioned on Mon Ami's blog and checked it out to attempt the placemat. I got sidetracked with the Tote Bag. The bear and music notes I had made several years ago for a quilt that never got done. The pattern for these are from Paper Panache. Now my little boy is already six so realized maybe this could be a tote bag for his piano books.

Little Oven Mitt

I really enjoyed all the inspiration from Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day. This Sunday, I sewed up a little oven mitt from the pattern posted at My Longest Year . My little man kept bugging me about what I was making so I did not even sew in the tag to get it done to stop the pestering. He loved this oven mitt. Anyhow, great tutorial and I plan on making more!
This is our last week of Kindergarden. I volunteered for the water park field trip...Hope I survive.

Southern Peas

Our little seeds have grown. Hopefully we will have some Red Zipper peas this summer.

Southern Peas and Pests

Living in a very residential area in a city has it downsides. Gardening being one of them. We built up some round stone walls, filled with good soil and organic matter, then covered with chicken wire. I planted two types of southern peas, white acre and red zipper and wow are they starting to grow! To date we have had no damage from cats, squirrels, or any other visitors. Hoping to thin the plants out this weekend plant another garden.

After thinking about my squares with the turned triangle, I emailed Jen this morning. She is fantastic! I cannot wait to see all the blocks.

"Package is in the Mail"

Whew... Just got back from the post office to send off my squares for the 2009 Quilt Block Swap. As I already blogged I have always wanted to particpate in a block swap so am very exited about this! Yes it is the deadline date but Hey I made it. One coincidence with this swap ... I recieved a spring catalog from Keepsake Quilting shortly after I signed up. I browsed through this catalog and saw Jen's product Seamingly Accurate. So there you have it... Twice I have come upon Jen's product so it means ... This is Positively something I need to purchase.

Now... I was going to write a little something about the pattern - Contrary Wife. Well ...sigh... I made all 9 Blocks wrong! Did not realize this until I went to get the pattern to post just now ... Then I saw it... One square is flipped wrong on each block. Need to crawl back into my shell to figure what to do next...

Valentines Stuff and Swap

The felt heart necklaces for "Little Mans" class were finished on time. When I asked Little Man Did everyone like the hearts? His response... Yes. That’s all I got.

I made a Love Bird with the tutorial from Molly Chicken Blog. Little Man loves his Love Bird. I put some little paper heart valentines into the pocket so he had plenty to pull out. It made such a nice surprise on Saturday Morning.

The Swap I signed up to participate in is Reanna Lily Designs Swap. I hope this yellow is ok as the person at the cutting table made some remark that she hoped my fabrics were not for a pillow. Hey, I love yellow and the brighter and sunnier the better. However since the lady at the quilt shop made this remark I am forwarding a photo be sure suitable for the swap before I make more. The pattern I chose is Contrary Wife. Loved the name!

Here is a video not to miss.... Enjoy.

Lots of Projects...

As always bit delayed but I have been busy.

I did end up making my bag from the book Simple Sewing with a French twist by Dupuy, Célin. I ripped out many seams and made my with two different black and white fabrics. I really like the bag and am happy it came out useable.

Here are some Valentine Hearts for Little Mans class. I was inspired by the project on Pearl Bee. I am going to attach ribbon to make them little necklaces. I hope the children will enjoy them. Little Man wants to keep them all so I am going to make him something special.

I went last Saturday to a local quilt shop to help find fabric for my first Swap. I chose the color yellow as it is a favorite color in our home. Special Thanks to my friend / neighbor who went with me and was so patient and helpful while I struggled with selecting two yellow fabrics. More on the swap soon.

First Post!

Here goes. A resolution I made for 2009 was to start a blog in January to keep up with my attempts at trying to be good! Granted today is the 30th but it is January nonetheless. I am very good at procrastination but this is NOT one of things I am trying to be at. Great thing about a New Year is a clean slate.

This weekend I hope to sew a bag from the gorgeous book- Simple sewing with a French twist by Dupuy, Célin. To sew a bag that looks nice and not scream homemade is something I am trying to be good at. Perhaps sometime I will do a post with photos of some of the 'bags' I have attempted to date. I checked this book from the library Wednesday but finally got a chance to browse through it last night while little man was watching his video. I am hoping to attempt the pink bag on the cover. Also need to get started on blocks for my first swap.

One thing I am grateful for today: The demand requested by little man this morning while going into class... "Mom ask ????? why she does not like my shoes ok?"

Namaste
